CyanogenMod is dead,  no more ROMs [updated]

CyanogenMod is dead, there will be no more ROMs [updated]

Cyanogen confirms in a blog post that closes its online services and development of ROMs CyanogenMod. The code remains Open Source for use by any developer.

Bitter news that accompanies us this morning. A mythical team of ROMs chefs, the most important of Android and has been battling with the system almost since its inception, abandons the development. Yes, say goodbye to CyanogenModCyanogen closes its services and development of ROMs. Both nightlies and stable.

Update: The CyanogenMod team confirms what was announced by Cyanogen Inc. Services will be disconnected and the development of the ROMs in what they themselves qualify as a "death blow" to CyanogenMod will cease. As rumored, the team will continue under Lineage.

A bitter farewell to the scene

We do not conceive Android and its evolution without the mythic ROMs of CyanogenMod. In fact, if there is the scene of our operating system is largely thanks to the development of those Cyanogen ROMs. A titanic effort for the cooks that ended up in company.

The company is experiencing difficulties. Its CyanogenOS departed with good expectations, but little by little it has been falling from the interest of the manufacturers to install it in their smartphones. Even Cyanogen, the founder of the company, recently abandoned it.

Cyanogen does not clarify in excess the reasons nor the future of its mythical CyanogenMod. The statement of his blog is very brief:

"As part of the consolidation of Cyanogen, all company services and those related to the development of Cyanogen-compatible nightlies will be discontinued as of December 31, 2016. The Open Source project and the source code will remain available to anyone who Want to develop CyanogenMod ROMs ".

A goodbye in full order. Finito, is over, the greatest exponent of the scene on Android is dead. We do not doubt that there will be many cooks in revitalizing the ROMs of CyanogenMod, but it will be difficult to reach their level of evolution without the effort of the company that created them and, above all, without the money invested in the development of such ROMs . A real pity.

Today is a bad day for Android. Just when yesterday came the last nightlies of CyanogenMod 14.1. You did a lot for our mobiles, Cyanogen, we thank you from the heart.
