Vizio has spent almost three years spying on what people see on their TVs
VIZIO
Vizio is a brand that has been characterized until now to offer televisions with simple designs and attractive

Good specifications, and above all, demolition prices. In fact, among those who wanted one with 4K resolution and price as affordable as possible, a Vizio was always one of the options to consider. From now on, they will also be characterized by the stigma left by the latest report of the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC): Vizio has been stealing information from its users for almost three years without their being aware of it.

The practice is not new, what is new is to mask it and obtain this data without the user's permission

this practice

Specifically, Vizio offered a service called "Intelligent Interactivity", supposedly focused on innocently analyzing the consumption patterns of user content to offer you suggestions and offers related to your tastes. In reality, what Vizio was doing was monitoring everything that appeared on the screen, whether it came from cable television, a set-top-box, a game console or any device connected to it. It also registered its IP address.

With this data, which reached up to 100,000 million points daily, the information was packaged once anonymised and from there was sold to advertisers to know its effectiveness. Thanks to IP tracking they could even know if an advertisement for an online series had been effective and the consumer had ended up seeing it on their Vizio. They started with this monitoring in May 2014, and almost two years later, in March 2016, they began to sell the data obtained.

This practice is not unusual, what is unusual and denounces the FTC is that it has been made opaque, masking the actual use that would be made of that monitoring, made on eleven million televisions. The sanction agreed with the FTC is $ 2.2 million to be disbursed by Vizio. After this episode, Vizio will change the way to inform the user of this practice, which will always have to give their direct consent to be subject to this monitoring.

Well I scared this practice without your consent, or you knew, so you expected a news of this type, we would like to know your opinion of this topic, if it seems good or bad for you to do these things without the users' We would also like you to share this article in your social networks.
