Chrome: will warn you if you start to write on pages without encryption - "TechnoTron"

Chrome warn writr on pages without encryption

"The new notice of Chrome on pages without encryption will prevent your data from being spied on."

The latest versions of Chrome have been focused on the fight against the HTTP and the empowerment of HTTPS; if you don't know the difference, basically, HTTPS provides an encrypted connection and reliable.

If a page uses HTTPS, we have some assurance that the communication can not be espiada easily by a third party; and also that we are connecting with the correct page and not a fake (the famous phishing).

However, HTTPS is not as expanded as you would like to Google. On some pages, directly it is because it is unnecessary because it does not transmit private information or require you to enter data; in others, it is because simply the administrator of the website has not done its job.

New warning to Chrome in pages without encryption when writing

That's why, since a few versions, Chrome is alerting to the user, giving preference to pages that use HTTPS; and with version 62, will come more changes that will help us to avoid insecure pages.

CHROME 1

The first change we will see when we go to write a page HTTP. At that time, the icon beside the URL will change and will show a message of “Not sure”.

Although HTTPS is usually used on pages that ask for personal data or passwords, Google thinks that all the data you share over the network should be private. Hence this notice, we will make it clear that what we write can be captured by a third party.

The incognito mode will alert you if your connection is not encrypted

The second change refers to the “incognito mode”, in which we can open a new window that does not record our history, or our cookies. Normally this mode is used when we don't want to leave a trace of our navigation.

CHROME 2

That is why, from Chrome 62, the incognito mode will show the HTTP pages as unsafe. According to Google, this change comes because when we use the incognito mode, we have certain expectations of privacy.

The incognito mode does not protect our privacy against threats in the network, unlike what we might think; it only protects our privacy in the same computer. That is the reason of this notice, to users who don't think that when you use the incognito mode your connection is secure.

These changes are only a preview of what is to come in the near future, Chrome will display a warning “Not safe” on all pages to HTTP, regardless of whether they require to enter data.
